UIDAI is all set to launch face authentication feature very soon to those customers who are looking forward to buy a new sim. This procedure was about to take place by August 1 but it has been postponed and will get effective by September 15.
For that, UIDAI has been sent notifications to all mobile operators and new sim registration without face authentication with require a penalty. This procedure has been postponed two times and now it is going to be effectively implemented by September 15. By this procedure, new sim registration will only get effective after matching the photos dispatched with form along with the face captured during face authentication.
However, this procedure will only work while buying a sim by using aadhar ID card and it will not be effective if the sim is being taken by using other documents used for authentication including voter id, license etc.
UIDAI has also been notified that atleast 10% of verifications are necessary by mobile operators. If mobile operators are getting failed to use this face authentication procedure, they will be charged 20 paise as penalty per verification done from operators end.
